National LGBTQ Coming Out Day 2017

It’s National LGBT Coming Out Day. As a happily married bisexual man, I could have kept that a secret and no one would be the wiser. That just doesn’t feel right, especially at this point in time.

I’m proud to be identified with the fine people who have been an important part of America’s Civil Rights awakening and don’t want to simply let others assume I’m just another straight white male.
I’m aware that my identification with the LGBTQ community could lead others to feel they have a right to judge me in some way. That’s simply a misguided assumption. More importantly, the very idea of seeking approval of my sexuality seems a bizarre concept. I came up when “Baba O’riley” used to say “oh well”.

The fact is all of our Civil Rights are under attack on this LGBTQ Coming Out Day. I feel very fortunate that I don’t need to rely on the approval of others for my livelihood or for personal validation. So, if you didn’t think you knew a member of the LGBTQ community, now you do for sure. If this knowledge leads you to negatively judge me for some reason: Oh, well.
